The Story Studio holds regularly scheduled classes in New York City, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and online. Corporate workshops and other specialty classes are held throughout the world! If you have a group of 3 or more students for whom you’d like us to arrange a private class, please email .
These online workshops will be conducted very much like our in-person workshops, with storytelling exercises and opportunities to share your stories and get feedback from your instructor and fellow students. We’ll be using the Zoom online platform to host our video calls, and we’ll send you all the info you need on how to join your class when you sign up.
Our 2-Day Level 1 Workshop is perfect for dipping your toes into storytelling waters for the first time, or a quick brush up on your skills if you’re a seasoned pro. Exercises in class focus on classic story structuring, building suspense, eliciting emotion, recreating drama, digging deeper into a story’s meaning, and using your voice and body to add levels to your listeners’ experience, so that your story stays with them.
Day 1 consists of exercises that will help you identify and refine a story to tell to the class. Day 2 is when students will perform their stories in class and receive in-depth feedback from their instructor and classmates.
For any class of up to 2 days in length, students must commit to attending the entire class. We understand emergencies arise, but if you know ahead of time that you cannot attend any part of the class, we ask that you choose dates where you can attend the entire class. We understand that last minute conflicts may arise in your schedule. If this happens, please contact ADMIN@THESTORYSTUDIO.ORG as soon as you become aware of your conflict.
For online classes, please arrive on time and be prepared to attend the class with your camera on (not just audio).
Headphones are recommended to reduce echo/feedback and provide more privacy for your classmates.
We encourage you to make recordings (video or audio) when you share your story. You can do this using a separate smart device or by using Quicktime or Garageband on your computer. Please decide ahead of time what is easiest for you. If you are going to use a smart device, make sure that there is enough available memory on your phone or tablet to make a 5-minute recording. This is only a tool for you, and no one else will be viewing these videos. We do know that taping oneself makes some people uncomfortable, so please know that this is not mandatory.
This class is open to all students. No experience required.
