The class will take place at The New Collective Theatre, 6440 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. The 2-Day Storytelling Workshop is a compressed version of the 6-session class, with a smaller class size to allow for maximum stage and feedback time for each student, and a break between sessions to allow students time to develop their stories. Perfect for dipping your toes into storytelling waters for the first time, or a quick brush up on your skills if you’re a seasoned pro.

May 6-Session Level 1 Storytelling Workshop with David Crabb

The Story Studio’s 6-session Level 1 storytelling workshop, taught by David Crabb, provides students with an encouraging, constructive environment in which to practice storytelling each week and receive feedback from their instructor and peers. Exercises in class focus on classic story structuring, building suspense, eliciting emotion, recreating drama, digging deeper into a story’s meaning, and using your voice and body to add levels to your listeners’ experience, so that your story stays with them. The class size will be limited to allow maximum individual attention and storytelling practice time for each student in each class session.

This class is open to all students. No experience required.

Class will meet from 11am-2pm on Saturdays at CAP 21, 18 West 18th St, on 5/14, 5/21, 5/28, 6/4, and 6/11. The first class will meet in room #508. The sixth and final session will be a class show for friends and family on 6/19 from 8-10pm at the 3 of Cups restaurant’s downstairs lounge at 83 1st Avenue at 5th St, NYC.

June 1-day Storytelling for Business Workshop with Dawn Fraser

This class will meet from 10am-5pm on Saturday June 21st, with a one hour break for lunch. The class location will be CAP 21, 18 West 18th St, room 507.

In this workshop, participants apply the principles of compelling storytelling to communicate more effectively on the job. Brief lectures and hands-on exercises focus on bringing an emotionally resonant arc to brand biographies, personal anecdotes for professional networking, and vision-into-action stories.

In one day, participants will get a chance to share and receive feedback on one short story of their choosing. The instructor confers with each student via email prior to the day of the workshop to help the student prepare appropriate story content to workshop.

1-on-1 Storytelling Lessons

The Story Studio also offers private storytelling lessons with Kevin Allison via Skype. This is a great option for anyone who wants more individual, personalized instruction, or for anyone located outside of the New York City area. In these lessons, you will come prepared with 2 stories you’d like to go over, and Kevin will listen to your stories, give feedback, and help you refine them, as well as go over various storytelling techniques and tips.

REFUND POLICY FOR ALL WORKSHOPS/LESSONS:

Once a place in a workshop has been purchased, no refund will be offered. Credit for a Story Studio workshop or lesson never expires and may be transferred to someone else with advance written notice to and approval from jc@thestorystudio.org If a student purchases a place in a workshop/lesson and needs to reschedule, he/she must give notice prior to the start of class to receive a credit for the value of the place reserved. This credit may be applied towards any upcoming workshop/lesson of equal value. Credit can also be used to attend combinations of workshops/lessons of lesser value until all credit is used, or to attend a workshop/lesson of greater value, provided that student pays the remainder of the course cost before enrolling.
